SIDS Awareness Month & Giveaway

October is SIDS Awareness month. SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and there are some steps you can take to help prevent it.

1. Put baby to sleep on his back. If your baby has learned to roll, don't worry, the risk then decreases once he can move himself. Noah has been sleeping on his tummy for months now, but I watch him like a hawk. Or a mama bear. A mama bear-hawk.

2. Use a firm mattress with no loose bedding. (including bumpers, stuffed animals, and pillows)

3. Have baby sleep somewhere close by where you can check on him easily and often.

4. Baby should have a cool sleeping environment. A hot room is bad but you don't want baby to freeze and shiver, either.

5. Keep cigarette smoke away from babies. (Especially if the smoker is the baby's primary caregiver)

6. Pacifiers can help reduce the risk because it keeps baby's mouth active and therefore, the airways clear.

In honour of SIDS Awareness month, I am having a giveaway for a cableknit Halo Sleepsack (in medium, cream). Now that the weather is getting cooler and blankets are necessary, these sleep sacks give me peace of mind knowing that Noah will be safe in his crib. There is no danger of suffocating himself with loose blankets, because it's basically a blanket that he can wear.

To enter, simply follow me on Twitter and retweet my SIDS Awareness Month tweet! You can retweet once a day until the contest ends to earn more entries! You can also leave a comment in the comment section below if you're not into Twitter. :) Giveaway begins today, October 1st, and ends on Monday, October 14th at 11:59pm PST.
