Helping Just a Little Bit

Sometimes when I look around at everything that Noah has, I wonder about how we're going to convey to him that he should be thankful for it all. Brendan and I want to instill good values in our little man. We want him to understand that mommy and daddy work hard for him to be able to have the basic necessities and comforts.

We've already decided that he's to have only a certain number of toys, certainly not unlimited, and that we're going to teach him to take good care of the things he does have. More importantly though, I think it's really important for him to learn that there are children who don't have what he has, and that he should care and try to help.

Keeping this in mind, I looked up some charities for babies specifically, and our church actually has one called St. Joseph's Baby Corner. They are a small organization that is dedicated to providing babies in need with items to keep them healthy and safe. Basic things, like clothing, toiletries, and things for new mothers, like nursing pillows and carriers.

Noah's almost 9 months old now, but there is no better time than the present to start! It isn't much, but we've gathered up some things to donate, like his old sleeper footies, onesies, and blankets. St. Joe's Baby Corner also suggests picking up a couple things here and there for them while you're doing your regular shopping. We got some baby shampoo and body wash, diaper cream, diapers, and a few new onesies to donate as well.

Little man is still too little to understand, but he will, and if we consciously try to live generously and with empathy day to day, I hope it will become a part of his life.

If you're from the Seattle area, click on the link to find out more about St. Joseph's Baby Corner. The YWCA also helps families in need, especially during the holidays, which are just around the corner.

It's so easy to get absorbed in our own lives, and just as easy to forget that there are others who are having a much harder time than ourselves.

Check out your local baby charities, I know there are some families who would really appreciate your help! xoxo
